If The Shoe Fits

All about shoes! Shoes! Shoes! And which one is good for your high-heels loving footsies...

We often hear other women say "My feet are killing me." This is not an uncommon phrase uttered by most women who have great affinity with killer-stilettos. There are great reasons why wearing high heels are not beneficial to one's footsie. Here are some reasons:

  • Causes over-crowding of the toes
  • Little support on the spine
  • Causes "neuroma" where tiny veins are pinched by wearing very tight shoes causing tissue to build around the area. Severe pain is an outcome of this condition.
  • Causes our foot and ankle to walk on supinated position posing greater risk of losing balance
  • Causes poor alignment on the back because of we tend to lean forward, throwing the normal "s-curve" of our spine displaced
  • Significant pressure is set on the ball of the foot. Continuous pressure on the plantar will result to foot deformities like hammer toes, bunions, corns and callus

So what is advisable then?

  • Low heels
  • Occasional wearing of high heels is allowed..again, on certain occasions. Ladies out there, don't "create" occasions just to justify the need to be on the heels!
  • Have foot spa and massage
  • Some podiatrists recommend the "wedge" heels should you really need to wear a high heel shoes
