A Moment of Silence

The reason I don't read news is that it is filled with tragedies, crime, oil-hike prices, etc., etc. Even if there is something positive to share, it is on small, fine print where people don't notice.

I haven't realized the depth of the tragedy that has befallen my fellowmen few days ago because of the fury of Typhoon Fengshen. A passenger/commercial ship sunk in the Philippines - MV Princess of the Stars (the sister ship of the ill-fated MV Princess of the Orient which capsized in 1998) and claimed the lives of thousands of passengers whom are vacationers, meeting their families back home, on cruise holidays, and personal reasons. This is not the 1st time a big passenger boat capsized from the same company.

It' s not in my heart to point fingers and blame officials or anybody who should be responsible for all the loss. However, someone has to face the consequences - is it the government for lack of strict mandate to regulate and enforce maritime safety and policies or the owners of the ship who tries hard to capitalize their service or the ignorance of the people behind boarding passengers beyond the ship's capacity, or mother nature for releasing her wrath?

My prayers go out to those who perished on this tragedy. I pray that they may find peace on their untimely death. I offer my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims that they may find and draw strength on the promise that the Lord never abandons His children. And my prayers go out to those rescue men who are risking their lives to help others in this effort. May God Bless Us All...
