Typhoon Ondoy - Ketsana

While we enjoy the sunny weather in Dubai, my families and friends and the badly affected people in Metro Manila and nearby places are submerged in flood water as I write this post.

I was unable to sleep well yesterday after I saw footage of houses under the water while the people were on the roof. 2 of my aunts live in Marikina City and their houses have been flooded up to the roof. One of my aunts and her family have to move next door (my other auntie's house) to find safe shelter in the 2nd level.

My mom's house was not that affected because she lives in Bulacan although the water reached our garage level. Our house is slightly elevated which is a relief.

I am appealing to everyone's kindness to extend help to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana). Here is a link of GMA with an updated list of verified relief centers. Your generous contribution/aid will be greatly appreciated by the people who needs them the most.

Let's also offer our prayers to the victims of this terrible typhoon.

So Obnoxious... I am!

I think I am afflicted with a certain degree of obnoxiousness. Not that it is inherent but I just have this very "off" feeling about some people in my circle.

I wonder why I don't like certain people when I don't know them that much personally. It's hard to explain but whenever I see them, my blood boils and I get so irritated. I try my level best to be diplomatic but I can't. I just don't want to associate myself with them for some weird reasons. Either I am turning to a grumpy cow, going through menopause or I am going nuts!

I hope I don't get a black card from the Almighty by feeling like this. I am losing my brownie points!

Girls Talk - GIRLS OVER BOYS: Things women can do that men cannot

I have so many reasons running wild in my head which can possibly bump the guys out to oblivion in terms of doing things that only women can do.

  • For one, we conceive, carry another life in our womb and give birth.
  • Second, women are so good multi-tasking. I can type, engage in a decent conversation and read at the same time. I don't know how I do it but I know I am good at it ;)
  • Third, women are passionate beings. We are the heart of our family. We feel for our loved ones. We do not deny ourselves of the various human emotions. This is the reason why, more men are in the "cuckoo ward" because they suppress their feelings.
  • We can shop for hours on end on our high heels without feeling tired. Shopping is tantamount to a guy's gym session.

Well, I'll keep the other reasons to myself lest I be condemned by the male species...hehehe. Joke!

Baby Goes Organic

In this age of global industrialization, a lot of companies and people are opting to go green to help our ailing Mother Earth recover. I have gone where others fear to tread and that is by going green! I am a happy "green person" and I try my level best to suit my activities and uses of products (and even services) which will aid in promoting environmental awareness.

I have cut back on my travels this year to minimize our families carbon footprints. We have switched to green lights and jute bags. I now put my sandwiches on glass containers so it can be washed again and again.

Even some of my families clothing have undergone revamp. I started purchasing clothes which are made of organic materials. We all know that organic materials are almost free of chemical abuse. Next to follow my lead will be my relatives and their kids and my friends as well.

I found this site which caters to Organic Baby Clothes. Their sense of style and whimsical designs are my kind of stuff. I browsed their products and found many Cloth Diapers and Baby Onesies. You can choose from various cute designs and even put text as you wish on the clothes you want. Since most of my friends live in the US and Canada, I think the long sleeves onesies will be the best bet as a gift.

Girls Talk - I LOVE ME: Why you love being a girl?

Well, my good blogging pal Niko conceived this Girls Talk idea and heck, it's cool! So, I am in... I love being a girl and here are the reasons why:

  • 1. I can wear high heels, mini-skirt (without looking slutty!) and a make up! Good combinations when you're trying to win a deal! hahaha
  • 2. I can cry on drama flicks with no shame because I am a girl.
  • 3. I just wave and smile and the other folks let me cut in the line (this applies when I am driving too). I have priority in paying at the till here (it's really practised here in the UAE. Women get special preference in lines and we have a special section - Women Only in most banks and other service companies).
  • 4. Shopping=Exercise, what can be better than that? I enjoy the shopping and at the same time, I am being a health-buff.
  • 5. I can try on many outfits, mix and match them, update them or downgrade them. I play by my fashion rules and I cannot be bothered ;)
  • 6. I am in-tune with my inner self without denying the various emotions a woman can feel.
  • 7. I can be soft as a marshmallow and tough as a nail.
  • 8. I can hold hands with my girl pals without being labelled "gay." But if guys do that, society finds it queer.
  • 9. I am a mom, sister and a wife.
  • 10. God has given me the gift to carry another life in my womb for 9 months. Beat that guys!

Beauty Tip 101 - Saving on Antioxidant

Vitamin E is known for its powerful antioxidants which helps in freeing radicals damage caused by environmental factors like the sun, wind and pollution.

If you are trying to save on your budget and would not like to spend unnecessarily on costly Vitamin- E enriched beauty creams, you may just have your dose of Vitamin E from leafy green vegetables and olive oil.

Still in the Office!

I am not used to staying back but since my hubby and I share one car and try to save on gas, might as well stay put.

So much for going green!

Just for kicks... a xenophobia. How will you eat yours?

Just rambling...

Bath Time is Fun Time

I have always enjoyed a nice soak in the tub especially when I am all stressed out. I like lighting scented candles and filling the tub with few drops of scented oils to calm my nerves.

I never had bath tubs back in the Philippines so when I moved here in Dubai, I made it a point to have a place with a bath tub in my master bedroom. I am lucky enough to have my own bathroom with a tub here with great bathroom vanities! Yes!

My next project is to upgrade my tub to a jacuzzi whirlpool. I know it is a long shot because our landlord will never allow us. So, in my own little dreamland, I decided to have one when I have my own home. I am looking at whirlpool jacuzzi with great water and air circulation to make the massaging power more effective.

I have seen a lot of gorgeous jacuzzis both in magazines and web sites catering to this product. I am not keen on a very big jacuzzi but something that can be placed in the corner so I can maximize the space of my bathroom.

I can't wait to have a house of my own so I can fulfill all my dream projects. And having a spacious bathroom with whirlpool jacuzzi is one of them! Talking of dream home projects, I'll include my dream kitchen with modern and stylish kitchen sinks and kitchen faucets.

Dubai Metro is ON!

I am very positive about the great change this Dubai Metro will bring here. I am so tired driving and getting stuck on the road for long hours because of the bumper-to-bumper traffic. I am also sick of seeing reckless drivers on the road.

The construction of this modern rail system began on 2005. Four years later, we are seeing the benefits of the long, arduous travel time I have lost getting stuck in the traffic. Now, the travel time of people who live from point to point of the station will truly save a lot of time and money when they take the train.

The launching yesterday was not the fully operational service of the Dubai Metro's Red Line. The Red Line is supposed to run on 29 stations from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali. However, some stations are still not fully functional so 10 out of the intended 29 stations have opened to the general public this morning at 6 a.m.

I am looking forward to ride the train tomorrow and see how the facilities and service are compared to the railways in Europe, Asia and the US.

I hope the ride, service and time is all worth the long wait!

My Life's Full of SCRAP!

LOL! And you all thought it's something else huh? I have been busy learning digital scrapping lately and the pages I have done so far are simple. I am learning the rudiments of using a template, getting ideas and using the various textures and embellishments to make my page more interesting.

I managed to get tons of ideas and embellishments for my pages and I can't seem to put what where. My mind is in disarray because of the multitude of choices around. Oh well, my life's full of SCRAP!
