Proper Eating and Lots of Exercise

People who reach the age of 30 starts to have problem with metabolism. I, for one, used to have a svelte figure until I hit 35 and the rest was just "growing pains" - girth wise!

Gaining weight can be detrimental to one's health. This may be beneficial for some who are petite and are trying to gain mass for health's sake but to many, this is just dangerous. Gaining weight in epic proportions poses health risks like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and painful joints.

I am not patronizing being skinny but I am promoting proper eating and regular exercises. Being properly informed of the benefits of supplements like reading sensa reviews, knowing the food pyramid, learning the tricks and tips of good and effective exercises and controlling one's eating portions are useful ways to help in keeping someone on track on the road to good health.

Wildfire in Leona Valley, California

The other half of the world is having rainy spells while the other half is experiencing extreme summer. On 29 July 2010, a so-called Crown wildfire in the Los Angeles County, Leona Valley, California broke and thousands of homes have been evacuated.

Score of residents have already lost their homes to the Crown wildfire. The combination of hot weather and dry bushes are liabilities in this season and can cause fire.

Neighboring areas like the Ana Verde and Quartz Hill is on high alert for possible evacuation due to movement of the fire towards the east.

Ellen DeGeneres off from Next Idol Judges Panel

I told myself that I would stop watching Americal Idol the moment Paula Abdul stepped out of the door. Unfortunately, I broke my promise but not regularly followed the season. I was still watching the show every now and then because of Ellen DeGeneres. She is just the funniest judge American Idol has ever had. She neutralizes tension amongst the other three judges.

Well, according to sources, she is leaving next season. Her decision was not an easy task but she had to come to the point where she needed to work her schedule out.

I will miss her on the next Idol season and the seasons to follow. I may just as well not watch. It's just not fun anymore.

Vacation Mode for Most Dubai Folks

It is that time of the year again when most of the locals and expatriates from Dubai and nearby emirates relocate to some place cooler.

The long and extreme summer months here cast away people because the heat is just unbearable. Also, the school ends on June and will not open until mid-September. So they take that opportunity to leave the country and explore the colder regions of the earth.

Other families prefer to drive to Salalah in Oman where the weather is not harsh and slightly cooler than its counterpart in the Middle East region. The big SUVs pack the road towards the UAE and Oman border together with their trailers and RVs. I sure hope they have checked everything before setting on their long drive. It is wise and important to have a travel insurance too and to check if 5th wheel warranty is applicable on their trailers or RVs.

I would like to embark on a road journey too before I leave the UAE. Driving to the neighboring country of Oman will be a scenic and wonderful experience for us.

Setting Up A Business

My friend will leave the company in the very near future. She and her family have already made arrangement to start their home business. She has been travelling back and forth from Dubai to Manila to ensure that everything goes as planned by mid 2011.

She is setting up an Internet cafe with business services like offering photocopying services, fax services, etc. Her husband is scouting for point of purchase displays along with office furniture and fixtures to put in the shop.

There are plenty of good and affordable furniture back home and I am sure they will find the set they need as per their budget.

Lighting is also their major concern. They want the shop to be well-lit but at the same time, energy-saving too. I suggested to install floor to ceiling glass windows to accommodate the natural light during the day. That way, they do not have to turn on plenty of lights to illuminate the shop. One or two will be fine as long as the natural light gets through the glass windows.

Next thing they will have to worry about is getting their business establishment listed under the government bureau to acquire business permit as well.

Putting up a business, no matter how big or small, does take a lot of painstaking preparation to ensure that your and the government's requirements are met.

When Hunger Strikes

Who ever said that "it is all in the mind" is mistaken. My mind was not thinking that I was hungry. I heard borborgymi and I wanted to eat not for the sake of filling myself but because I was hungry.

My brother reprimanded me because I asked him to accompany me to the nearby McDonald's to grab something to munch. He said I was already good at controlling my hunger and why the sudden change. I said it had nothing to do with ruining my discipline but I wanted to eat. Besides, it was the end of the week already and we had no fillers in the ref. I was not planning to buy burger, just salad to satisfy this hunger pang.

If this continues every night, then having those weight loss drinks around may just do me good. I do not intend to derail my healthy eating habits now. I just want to silence this growling stomach.

Not Fat, Just ROUND!

Try as I might to dispel the thought that becoming rotund runs in our genes. Both of my parents are slightly round, my sister is also in the "fat" side, my brother is like a walking Buddha and one of my niece is like a ball.

So there, we are a family of round people. I used to be skinny prior to reaching mid-thirties. I even fit on pre-teens clothing until I was about 35. Then boom! All those unwanted fats started to creep in from nowhere and next thing I knew, I was wearing XL-sized clothes.

I tried every imaginable diet out there but fell flat. I even checked websites upon websites about diet pills that work , starved myself, went vegan for a while and did the no-food after 6 fad too. Some worked, some didn't so I was back to square one.

I know better now. I am regularly exercising since I already lost 4 kilos. I don't want to stop now and fall back to my bad routine of eating chips and being sedentary. I just want to move and move and lose more weight the healthy way. It may take time. I am not in a rush as long as I do it the healthy way.

Too Tired For Anything

I am willing my fingers to type right now. I just posted earlier how stressed I was today. I felt like all my energy had been zapped. I don't know where to get more for reserve.

I don't know what is wrong today. All I know is that there are plenty of work to be done and all with a strict deadline to follow. I don't know if I have enough time to finish all the pending tasks in the office by end of the week.

I missed a decent meal today at lunch because I lost my appetite. The stress at work and my lack of energy now are like appetite suppressants. I don't feel hungry anymore. I would rather sleep after I post this than eat.

I am not sure how much longer I can take all these nonsense. To think that I am very sensible enough to put my health and welfare on the fore and yet here I am, skipping meals to give way to some deadlines! The irony...

Stressful Day

I was already stressed last Thursday. And yet again, the stress saga continues. My day in the office seemed to be taking forever. I just kept working and working. Time seemed to have stood still even if I have accomplished many tasks already. I still have plenty of things to do which were left undone.

Deadlines to meet were tight. My heart palpitated. My palms were cold and I could feel my sweat trickle down my forehead even when the air condition unit was in full blast.

I don't know how long I can still do this. The stress is wearing me out. I don't have enough "motivation" and "morale" on reserve. If those two get depleted, I am in deep doo-doo!

Again, I pray for 2013 to roll in quick so I can just decide on what to do next. Sigh...

And Then There Was Light

I am so bored with our ceiling lights. They are hanging lights which look more of a mini chandelier. I think they are so outdated.

I love contemporary stuff in my living room. However, my husband is the practical one who keeps telling me not to buy expensive items for the flat where we are currently staying at because the place is not ours.

I always remind him that we can take whatever we bought back in the Philippines. I can always rent for a big container if I have too.

I just feel like the lights are so old-fashioned. I want hanging spotlights just like the hanging lamps I saw in the mall last week. They are sleek and uses energy-saving bulbs. I will have to convince my husband though since we are updating the living room; maybe we can also include the lights.

Sweat it Out

The weather is awful right now. I miss running outside. I think I will not be able to stand the heat outside for a minute, what more an hour? It is like walking past an open oven door. That is the kind of heat we experience here in Dubai.

So, last Thursday, I decided to use the building's gym. The feeling I have when running outside is never the same when you do it indoors. However, I just have to do it than miss my regular exercise regime.

The air condition unit was already on in the gym and yet the heat outside seeped in. It is like being inside a hot sauna. Well, the plus side was, it gave me a quick weight loss boost because I perspired a lot.

I used to dread the idea of me getting soaked with my own sweat. However, perspiring is our body's natural way of releasing our body heat or else we suffer from heat stroke. Sweating is also a good way to release the toxins in our body. It also improves your skin by washing away dead cells and helps unclog pores.

Happy Millie

Hubby and I decided to have a breakfast at the nearby McDonald's. We took Millie along. We haven't walked Millie for sometime now because of the extreme weather. That won't be too good for her and for me too.

I just noticed how Millie loves to go around for a drive. She prefers sitting in the car rather than walking. She always sit in the middle of the road after few minutes of walk and loves to be carried. Such a diva!

We sometimes take her to our family outings but Dubai is not too pet friendly in most public places. So, what we do is just tag her along and let her see the beaches and the neighborhood.

This was taken last year on our trip to Atlantis in The Palm, Jumeirah. She had fun! We did too :)

Updating the Living Room

We went to Ikea last weekend to check out some nice contemporary sofas and other trinkets to display in our living room. Ikea was on "part sale" so my husband decided to purchase a black coffee table to replace the old, white one we have.

There were so many nice sofas and tables that made us reconsider updating our old furniture at home. I am sure there will be further reduction at Ikea since it is Dubai Summer Surprise until August. Most shops in Dubai during this festival offers huge discounts on their merchandise.

We know exactly what I want from Ikea. We are just waiting for the big, big sale.

My Husband's Netbook

My husband normally does not purchase any gadgets above US$200. He sees buying as a task that he will only do when required. However, since he has seen his friends with netbooks, he purchased one for himself as a gift. I really do not tell him what and what not to buy because he is good handling budget. I let him do his thing.

He and his Lenova netbook has become inseparable ever since he bought it last year. That netbook is very lucky because it has travelled with us during our trips outside the country. Lucky netbook, it has even crossed the Atlantic Ocean! He even bought it with him on our trip back to the Philippines and Thailand. I can tell that he loves his netbook so much. It is lightweight, compact, easy to carry and small enough to pack inside your hand-carry bag.

Now, who wouldn't love that?

Car Scratches and More

I knew the time would come when our pristine Hyundai Tucson would have its baptism of fire in terms of nicked paints, scratches and dents.

My husband has managed to avoid all possible bodily "harm" to our 3 year-old vehicle. However, last December 2009, we got hit on the rear on a "full-stop" zone. Imagine that! So, the first dent on our hood has been marked. Then, early this year, I accidentally hit the electronic gate of our building and caused a very huge paint scraped from the right door. It is a good thing that our vehicle is properly maintained and we still go to the Hyundai Service Center to get the work done. It is a bit costly when doing the repair work outside but at least we are assured that the tools and body kits used for the repair are all authentic. My husband is very keen on getting all the job done properly and materials are original and meant to be used for Hyundai only.

The paint-scrape incident was not the last though. We had the right back door re-painted and few weeks later, some inconsiderate driver opened his or her driver-side door so hard and slammed on our right passenger door. Now our Hyundai has a dent and not just one! I almost freaked out because we just had the paint redone on the back door and now the dents are on the passenger door. I remember those cars used in the Mad Max movie. Won't it be nice to install those sharp things on our Hyundai? I am sure that no one will dare touch nor go near our Tucson.

Going back to reality, I have already accepted the fact that no matter how careful we are as vehicle owners, other people will still cause harm on our car. I just have a quick ocular check every morning before we drive to work on what mark has been left on our precious Hyundai. I just hope they don't nick our car!

My Photobucket

I have been an account holder in Photobucket for as long as I can remember until last year or the year before when it decided to charge.

I stopped temporarily and searched for other viable electronic album sites to hold my photos. Unfortunately, my search was futile so I ended up paying for a year's worth of storage in Photobucket.

I am not sure if I searched hard enough or just felt lazy to browse more or Photobucket does offer great features I cannot find elsewhere. Hmmm... So, next year, I will have to shell out $24.90 for a year of premium usage.

What a Sting!

Summer is here! Most of the people will head to the beach this weekend to cool off. However, you may want to check the shallow waters first for some jelly fish floating nearby because summer waters often attract a lot of water species.

A giant lion's mane jellyfish was spotted today at a state park beach in New Hampshire by a lifeguard who immediately requested the beach goers to get out of the water. Many reported they got rashes and felt stinging sensation. More than a hundred has been reported stung by the giant jelly fish.

The jelly fish broke into pieces after officials removed it from the shallow water.

Hot Weather = Fire!

Summer is often associated with fire due to the extreme temperature and humidity. Hearing sirens and honking of the fire trucks is a regular occurrence here in my neighborhood. Dubai is quick to respond on such emergencies and that is what I like in this place.

I was able to capture a fire which broke in one of the industrial warehouses near my building few minutes ago. It is just a block away and I can see it from my veranda. It started with white smoke bellowing from the warehouse and then it turned to black. The fire was just a flicker and became red-orange flame. More firetrucks, police cars and ambulance came to the scene in a span of few minutes.

So, folks, be careful with your electrical outlets, flammable items and appliances. Make sure you don't light incense or candle and leave it unattended. Also, unplug any unused appliances. Remember to use fire exits in case of emergency and call for help.

Summer is Really Here!

Goodness! It is so hot outside that you don't need to take a bath because you'll soak on your own sweat! Gross, I know but it is true.

The air is so hot and dry. I am having breakouts again because of this seasonal changes. My cheeks are pinkish (hihihihi) and have small rashes like pin-pricks. Arggghhh! I can't put any creme on my face because it will only make my skin more oily than it already is.

Summer is really, really here. There is no denying that anymore. While it is raining in the Philippines like cats and dogs, here, it is the opposite. Sometimes I am tempted to do a "rain dance" to call on rain clouds. We can use a few drizzle here and there.

Banish Debts Completely

I have fallen prey to the credit card monsters here in Dubai. Back when recession was far from everyone's minds, banks here in the Gulf region offered great deals on credit cards. Some offered free-for-life scheme where annual fees were waived. Others had interest-free for a certain number of months. All those changed when recession hit the financial market. The banks issued new credit rules and interest rates were hiked.

I remember paying for a certain card for less than $100 only but now, I have to shell out extra money just to cover the minimum when I have not used the card recently. It seems like my credit card bill has not improved at all and I owe the bank more than what I have used because of interest charges.

Banishing my credit card bills is my primary concern. I want to be able to enjoy my earnings too and not waste it by paying credit cards every month. It is hard to accomplish this goal at this point because of many factors. Money is scarce. Our company has not given us any increment last year and other incidental expenses keep creeping up like school fees, car maintenance, house rental, mortgages and family to support in the Philippines. I am not even taking into consideration the medical bills I have to incur for my check-ups and medication.

I wish there is a fast way to reduce the card bills. I hope they can offer credit cards with small interest fee like TrueEarnings card and Starwood Preferred Guest Card which you can use for your basic needs like groceries and food items. At least, the purchase of groceries and food items is something I will not feel guilty of.

The US market is more flexible in helping consumers cut back on their spending and lessen the credit card bills. US offers great deals on cards and provides free credit standing checks to consumer. I have yet to see a financial institution here in Dubai to offer credit standing check. All I know is that, we are paying so much for the use of cards. To be able to maximize the payments we make, we must pay more than the minimum. This is a sure way to banish card debts completely and fast.

Ace of Cakes

I was casually browsing the Internet for floor plans and was not sure how I ended up checking Chef Duff's creative cake creations.

I checked pictures upon pictures of beautiful, spunky and very creative cake designs he had made with his team. I have not heard of him yet but he has a show in the FoodNetwork which I normally don't watch given my dislike for cooking and anything involving the use of the kitchen (except when I need to get food from the fridge to munch).

Check out  samples of their cakes and tell me who will not drool over these yummy-looking cakes! I wish I can taste one...

Health Nut - Mulberry Tea

I just bought 2 boxes of Mulberry Tea from Bangkok. My friend has recommended it to me. She swears by its potent health benefits. I was a little dubious because I never heard of Mulberry tea before. I checked the Internet and found out that it is indeed very beneficial in one's health. The following are some of the benefits of drinking Mulberry tea:

1. Has the ability to block sugars. So, it is a good drinking option for diabetic people.

2. Helps in reducing hypertension

3. Aids in eliminating bad cholesterol

4. Serves as an anti-oxidant

5. Relieves constipation, cough, colds

6. Helps cure anemia

7. Acts as diuretic by flushing fluids and toxins from the body

8. Contains high levels of potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosporus

I should have bought the entire shelf of Mulberry tea while I was in Bangkok! It is so hard to find this kind of tea here in Dubai and even in the Philippines.

So, if you can find one, do try it for your health's sake.

Snow in Dubai

I admit, I want to feel how it is to live in a snowy place, let alone, a cold one. The coldest it can get here in Dubai is about 13 or 15 degrees Celsius and that is if we are lucky. Winter here is very short so we cannot sport those nice wintry clothes and enjoy winter activities like skiing, making snowmen, sticking our tongues out to taste the snow, making snow angels and enjoying hot cocoa by the fireplace.

One activity I would like to experience is going out on snowboards. Dubai has an indoor ski resort called Ski Dubai. They offer ski lessons and snowboarding. I am not sure though if the snowboarding lessons are akin to Olympic snowboarding. Nevertheless, these exciting snow activities are available here to be learned and experienced for a fee.

Ski Dubai is an indoor ski dome located in Mall of the Emirates. I have not enrolled in their snowboarding lessons but I am quite interested. I have just checked out their activities for the summer and looked at various snowboard trick images posted there and in their website.

I am thankful that even if Dubai is situated in the Middle East where vast deserts abound, it still offers activities other people from the colder regions enjoy like skiing and snowboarding. Dubai has actually brought those winter fun right in the desert for the locals and expatriates to enjoy without having to go out of the country and spend hard-earned money.

I hope to enjoy these cold activities one of these days. I am still mustering enough courage to wear those winter gear and get that snowboard and plunge. It must be exciting!

Mid-Life Crisis and Me

I don't know why but I have this weird feeling down my gut (nope, not abdominal gas or tummy ache nor diarrhoea) that I am experiencing mid-life crisis.

I have heard this cliche and have witnessed people close to me go through this crisis. My mom, for one, went through it. So, it leaves me wondering, what is mid-life crisis anyway?

Mid-life crisis is like an emotional transition experienced by people from 40 and 60. It is that phase where people begin to take stock of their lives and question their worth and purpose. It is that time of their lives where they make adjustments to get certain fulfillment in life and purpose.

Carl Jung, the psychologist who identified this phase said that it is a normal event in a person's maturing process.

This mid-life crisis is very awkward for me. Not that I am acknowledging its presence in my life at the moment, I cannot deny the fact that I am becoming a textbook example of a person going through it. It is not easy. I have so many questions I never thought I would ask myself while I was younger. I am only few years shy of turning 40 but these thoughts in my head about what I want and where I want to be in the future are mind boggling. I still do not have the answers and do not know when and where I will find them. All I know is that, I have this doubt, fear and certain battle within me to find the real essence of my life. It is so profound and I know it also involves my spirituality.

I hope to get over this phase, if ever I am really experiencing it or my hormones are just playing tricks on me. Whatever the case may be, I shall draw my strength from my God. I know this will pass and I hope I get through this with stronger faith and belief that my Lord will see me through.

Beauty Tip 101 - Supple Skin

We are born with genetic dispositions much as we want to have peachy skins. Some people are just very lucky to have alabaster complexion that even the ivory will pale in comparison. Some people resort to cosmetic science to enhance their skin tone and suppleness. However, we can still have a soft and supple skin the natural way.

The weather condition is one of the factors which affects our skin tone and suppleness. Pollution, humidity, extreme temperatures, sun and rain causes imbalance on the moisture our bodies retain. So, one of the easiest way to have supple skin is to keep it hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Eat vegetables and fruits to supply lost nutrients.

Put chlorine filter in your shower to reduce chlorine as this dries up our skin.

Look for the best night cream in the market you can find. It should have moisturizer too.

Take plenty of rest and sleep on time as this will help in regenerating skin cells.

So, it is really not that hard to have a soft and supple skin. Albeit not naturally born with it.

4 Kilos in a Month!

I just lost 4 kilos in a month's time. My doctor said it was fast so I better regulate my eating habit and not to lose weight more than that in the coming months. All I did was to skip on sodium and fried food. I did not even have the chance to look on apidexin reviews for my diet. It was just the normal way of eating properly and sweating it out by running regularly.

I hope to lose more weight the healthy way. I am just a bit concerned that I am losing too much weight fast. For all I know, I could be burning my muscles and not fats.

Baby Stroller

We bought a baby stroller for our nephew on sale. It is not as flashy as some of the high-end strollers we see in the baby shops here. It does look fine with less the frills. It is simple like the Baby jogger city select styles I see from the other expats here. I think it is okay and sturdy enough to carry our nephew around even he gets older and heavier. My husband said as long as it served its purpose, it would be just fine.

Platinum Mall in Bangkok

I always go to MBK for my shopping needs. However, this recent trip to Bangkok brought us to Platinum Mall. A lot of my friends said that it is cheaper there because the mall consists of shops which are wholesale distributor of garments, fashion accessories, footwear and other apparel.

The price of their goods is cheaper compared to MBK. There are plenty of shops there to choose from. The only problem I have with this mall is that they close around 7-8 p.m. unlike MBK which stays open until late evening.

Savory Thai Food

I have been in Bangkok many times over the past years. Each visit is not different from the previous - enjoyable and relaxing! Well, that was the purpose of our travel anyway, to rest and relax and have fun.

I have binged a little because I love Thai food so much. I am very careful of the sodium and fatty contents of the food though. I know when to stop eating but if the food is as sumptuous as the Thai delicacies, I think I will need generic Phentermine to combat the appetite. I have been good with the food-intake so far. I hope I don't derail on my quest.

The food is just great! The fresh fruits everywhere are tempting. The savory scent of Thai cuisine is just captivating. Thank goodness we're leaving tomorrow. I just have to control myself one more day.

I Want To Stay...

My short vacation here in the Philippines is about to wrap-up tomorrow. My husband and I are headed to Bangkok for a nice R & R and quality couple-time. Our princess is staying here in the Philippines for 1 1/2 months before she returns to school as Grade 7 student. Time flies!

I haven't been home for the past 1 1/2 years so my heart yearns to stay longer. If only I don't have other obligations to settle in Dubai, I would really stay here for good. At first, I was uneasy and sort of disoriented because I already planned to migrate somewhere else. However, my heart is betraying me now ;) It is really true, home is where the heart is. I think I will dump my migrating plans entirely and settle here in the Philippines in the next couple of years.

I wish I can stay longer. I really, really do. Despite the sticky sweat, pollution, lack of airconditioning units at home and endless traffic, I feel this is where my heart is.

Hay....Manila, I keep coming home to Manila. There is no place like Manila... I'm coming home to stay...SOON!

My Spiritual Wealth

I have always believed that no material possessions I have here on earth can ever save me. I try my level best to live by that rule. I am not a goody-goody Miss Two Shoes kind of person but I try so hard not to cause any harm to others nor bad-mouth someone nor think ill thoughts. I just want to do and say the right things as far as my faith and belief are concerned. I would like to face my God during the last days of my life with a clean heart and conscience.

The tenets of my spiritual wealth includes prayers and doing good deeds to others. These are the kind of wealth which cannot be measured in terms of monetary value. It is not a simple task because I face different people with varying personalities and beliefs as mine. Most often, other's ways and habits contradict my views but I practice tolerance and respect as long as they do not question my faith. Sometimes, these people will test your patience but I just accept them as they are and pray that we gracefully accept whatever differences we have.

The worldly possessions I have here are just physical manifestations of the great blessings I receive. As my act of gratitude, I believe in the word of God and the Bible Prophecy. I digest His words like my daily bread and spread the word thru good deeds. I would like my Lord to be proud of me and when End Times come, I am ready to walk in His kingdom with all my spiritual wealth.

Losing Weight

I am very glad that my weight finally budged a little. I have lost 3 kilos in a months time simply by avoiding salty and oily food. I have changed my eating habits and eats more grilled white meat than fried version. My family and friends are starting to notice the difference. I can feel the difference too because of my loose pants. Although I have considered taking Lipofuze to aid my weight loss program, I have temporarily put that plan on hold. I am still doing it the slow and sure way. I know I will make it. I just have to remain determined to resist the temptation to eat junk food and to motivate myself to exercise regularly. I will see the end result in due time and one day, will thank myself for being steadfast.

Problematic Claims

My mom retired from government service for one and a half years now. However, the government is giving her a tough time claiming her retirement and social security disability fund. We are all getting very frustrated with the system. My mom is not young anymore and can barely take long steps when left alone. Yet, she has managed to go to the releasing office of the government's bureau but to no avail. I feel so bad and sad for my mom since she has worked hard for 40 years in the service. This is what the government has to give her in return.

I hope that the new president will make things better for all the Filipinos, young or old, rich or poor, educated or not, and whatever state they are in the society. Enough with these problematic claims once and for all!

Oily Skin and Acne-Prone

I am sure my daughter did not get her acne-prone genes from me. I never had that much problem while I was about the same age as her. I have tried several oitments for her sensitive skin. I checked with the dermatologist about her skin-condition but she still gets break-outs. I am thankful though that the area affected is confined to the forehead only. Imagine if her cheeks get pimples too. She will get very upset and it is not a young lass would like to see when she looks on the mirror.

She is very careful with her face now. She is using the one recommended by the dermatologist. However, the best acne wash is still water in my opinion.
