22 October 2017 (Dubai) – The Italian Way Product Design award presented at Downtown Design, brings together Eastern and Western cultures renowned for their legendary hospitality and dedication to dining. Looking to discover and celebrate the leading product designers in the UAE, this award is a new platform for both established and budding product designers to showcase their creativity by developing a functional object for the table.
Entrants to the competition are tasked to design an object that would work for the dining requirements of a typical regional home, inspired by Italian traditions of craft and effortless style. The winning designer will be matched with an Italian manufacturer to produce a prototype for commercial use and potential future production.
The designs will be judged by a panel of experts including Michael Rice; designer and artist specialising in ceramics and glass, Saher Oliver Samman; founder of eco fashion accessories label Terracotta Row, Andrea Sensoli; from Super Future Design, as well as Rue Kothari; Fair Director for Downtown Design and Giulia Fiumi; Marketing Manager of Peroni and The Italian Way.
UAE-based architect Ana Margarida D’Castro; founder of BIA Architecture who has broad experience in multiple disciplines, including Art installations and interior design, has exclusively designed The Italian Way Product Design Award trophy for the inaugural year.
The five shortlisted designs from The Italian Way Product Design Award will be on display inside The Lighthouse Pop-Up at Downtown Design, d3 Waterfront. from 14th – 17th November, with the winner being announced at a private event on the evening of Wednesday 15th November.
