Fenu what? Yes, I asked that too. It’s not very often that you will hear the word fenugreek. Honestly, I have come across this seed here in Dubai. I have never heard of it and I’m so surprised to know that the small seed is packed with plenty of healthy benefits.
Fenugreek is a plant native to and widely used in the Middle East and the sub-continents of India. It is also known as methi. It is used as a herb, spice and vegetable. It has a distinctive sweet due to sotolon, a chemical responsible for the sweet taste of fenugreek.
Some of its health benefits are listed below:
Increase milk production for breastfeeding mothers due to the presence of diosgenin
Reduces menstrual cramps
Reduces cholesterol
Reduces cardiovascular risks
Helps control diabetes
Helps relieve sore throat
Prevents colon-cancer as it has anti-carcinogenic properties
Surpresses appetite
You can have fenugreek as part of a cooked meal or few seeds diluted in water and letting it steep overnight to be drank the next morning.
