How to Wear Fringed Outfits and Clothing

If you have a love for fashion, you’ve probably been following the latest fashion trends to hit fashion week and are already stocking up on fringed clothing and accessories. But, if you haven’t had time to figure out the ins and outs of wearing fringe, I’m here to help you learn how to wear fringed outfits and clothing in preparation of showing off your fashion know-how and trendy wardrobe.

First and foremost, you should realize that fringe isn’t something to be afraid of, but if you’re new to wearing fringe, consider going small at first before incorporating it into your main articles of clothing.

Some accessories that you’ll be able to find with fringe are:

  • Bracelets: A bold chunky leather bracelet with fringe along the sides or as a focal point in the center would be eye-catching.
  • Necklaces: Necklaces with leather or corded fringe create interest.
  • Earrings: Earrings with small tufts of fringe to create a dangle effect are stunning.
  • Purses: A standard purse or even a classy hobo bag with fringe can be extremely classy-casual.
  • Shoes: Heels, flats, and boots can all be found with a slight fringe at the toe or along the sides. They can help to create visual interest and longer lines.

While this may seem very small in comparison to what the fashion trend calls for, you’d be surprised to find just how much visual interest even the smallest amount of fringe can provide to an outfit.

Now, if you’re a little bolder with fashion, you may want to skip the accessories and move forward with something a little bit more risky. Try on a loose jacket or coat with fringe at the hem-line. These fringed edges help to create a great deal of interest while elongating the lines of your legs. When paired with the textures of print or other fabrics, it can definitely send that “wow” factor that you’re looking for.

If wearing fringe on your coat is out due to warm weather, try adding the fringe to the hem of a fringe skirt instead. Not only does it create a great look, it adds movement to your outfit as well with every step that you take. Remember though, when playing with hemline fringe, you want to make sure that the rest of the look is nicely understated and accentuates the overall appearance of the outfit as a whole.

Now, if you’re far more adventurous with your wardrobe, you can pull out all of the stops with the new fringe fashion trend. If you’re feeling a little more risqué, try wearing a fully fringed skirt. They will have a higher cut that moves with you and creates a whirlwind of interest. You can even pair your fringed dress with a fringe jacket to add additional texture and layers to the stunning look. Remember though; don’t go overboard as it’s easy to push it so far that it looks like a costume. Pair your fringe with minimalist designs to offset the bold flavor of fringe.
Another thing to bear in mind is the construction and overall fabric choices when selecting your fringed pieces. Some fabrics of course will lend themselves better to fringe than others. Some of the most popular fringe fabrics are:

Leather will create a harsher and edgier look. You should pair it with fabrics that are lighter to create a cohesive balance.

Suede is a very earthy fabric that creates a great deal of texture on its own, adding in fringe boosts the interest. Try not to overdo suede.

Chiffon may seem too soft to boast fringe, but it can create a stunning airy effect with fringed hems.

Cotton is the perfect go-to fabric for fringe, especially when you want to wear a t-shirt dress.
At the end of the day, with fringe it’s best to stick to what you’re comfortable with. Play with the fringe texture to see what does and doesn’t go well with the outfit. From classy to casual, it’s absolutely possible to create an on-trend fringe look for every second of the day while maintaining an air of sophistication, fun, and flintiness.
