I just noticed that whenever I start or at least embark on a new small business that involves products that I have tried and tested and believe to be very beneficial to many, I always find myself facing a big wall. And all I have in my hand is a small pen and paper, not even a hammer. Yes, it is very philosophical. But this happens every single time. I never see my business go past stage 1.
I always go back and start all over either with the same business or with a new one. I guess, my resiliency always takes the better of me and that is a positive thing to happen. It only goes to show that I don’t give up easily. I may also have to start learning from every pitfall because learning is good.
I don’t know if anyone will ever tell you that starting a small business is a walk in the park. If you hear them say that, they are lying! It is like a walk in the forest and getting lost there, and finding your way out. It is not easy. However, the learning process of establishing a small business is something very rewarding especially when you are there from the very conception to the execution. It is also nice if you would be there until it peaks, then falls, then pick itself up again. Having a business is like that. It is like a rollercoaster ride but every peak you reach is exciting.
I always find myself wondering how to really beat the odds. I want to be able to sustain what I have started and not fall flat again when the going gets tough. So, what do I do when I need to overcome enormous challenges to be able to fulfill my business goals and see it prosper? Here are some tips to help you overcome challenges when starting a small business.
Write down your goals
I like seeing visuals. It helps me keep on track of what I have noted down to pursue my goals. Writing down my goals is one way of helping me stay focused. I just love the idea of having to tick those goals from the list. It helps drive the motivation to succeed.
With the many activities in our daily lives, we tend to get out of focus on our business goals. Be mentally prepared to stay focused on achieving your goals. Make time to prepare what you will need in order to drive your business to the next level if you have already started one. And if you are just about to start or planning to have one, it helps to know what your goals are so there is something you are eyeing after all the preparation.
Do your research
It is important to also know what your business is going to be, who you are targeting, the products you want to sell, and the money matters that go with it. When starting a small business, it is very vital to do a feasibility study first so you can have a better understanding and a clear picture of what the market is like with similar types of business. If you are thinking of putting up something that is unique and definitely not yet mainstream then you are in a good position to establish your business with proper information and preparation.
Enlist the help of family and friends in promoting the business/launch
And once you have established your business and are ready to launch, it pays to enlist the help of family and friends for free word-of-mouth or promotion through their social media. If you have prepared a budget for advertising to help propel your business then do so. As for me, I would initially go the more practical and affordable way of doing promotions through the help of family and friends. You can give them free products or discounts to offer that will not eat much on your initial capital.
For the non-believers, you can skip this part but this is my opinion.
Lastly, it helps to pray for blessings. I always pray for God to bless my endeavors because I want to be able to share my blessings too and create jobs for other people. And all you can do now is do your best to make the business work to the best of your ability.
Here is my new business I have launched last September. I have managed to make sales but still in the process of promoting the products, and reaching more audience through social media. I enjoy spending time on working out ways to promote and make retail sales through the online media. I do what I can within my means to make it work. And I am thankful for my family who helps back home to ensure the products get delivered to my customers.
Good luck and be determined.
